First Time , Yiwu City Elects "Honored Citizen"

Yesterday, the journalist learned fromForeign & Overseas Chinese Affairs Office that to encourage more businessmen to make a contribution to the city economic and social development, and demonstrate the inclusive disposition of the international trade city, our city will elect “honored citizen” for the first time this year.

It is learned that the Municipal Government 29^th Standing Conference has reviewed and passed Yiwu City Honored Citizen Election Temporary Methods (hereinafter referred to as Temporary Methods) and made announcements on the Internet.

With rapid development of our city’s export-oriented economy and improvement of the internationalization level, more than 7,000 overseas Chinese businessmen invested in Yiwu, which has become an important town of overseas Chinese. According to the Temporary Methods, foreign friends, overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan compatriots, and non-natives can participate in this election with a recommendation from relevant units or social organizations by satisfying any one of the following conditions: can actively exploit the domestic market and make outstanding contribution to the market prosperity of Yiwu; can actively promote external exchanges and establish friendly city relation; can actively introduce important projects, talents, large amount of capital, advanced technology and equipment to the city; can make outstanding contribution to the city science and technology, education, tourism, culture, hygiene and sports etc. and harmonious society construction; can put forward suggestions with important theoretical value and realistic significance to promote economic development and social progress, and generate significant economic and social benefits after being adopted; can make significant contribution to public welfare cause such as charitable donation.

“Honored citizens” will be selected by the special “Appraisal Committee”. The election will be conducted in each October once a year. Winners of the title will be invited to be a visitor at the NPC, CPPCC and government relevant meetings; be invited to attend important exhibitions and relevant festive activities such as Yiwu Exhibition, enjoy distinguished guest treatment and favorable exhibition policies; when departing from Yiwu airport, the honored citizens can use VIP waiting room, and green channel; when dealing with the visa procedures, the honored citizens can enjoy the convenience such as green channel.
