Yiwu, Zhejiang is known as the "Capital of Small Commodities in the World", with 2.1 million types of goods shipped to more than 230 countries and regions. Currently, it has attracted over 20000 foreign nationals to reside there. The Jimingshan community is known as the "United Nations community" due to its proximity to the Yiwu International Trade City, where thousands of foreigners from 74 countries and regions reside. During the May Day holiday, there was a significant increase in inquiries about housing resources in the community, many of whom were foreigners.

"This year is my 8th year renting here. Because I am familiar with the community environment, many business friends have asked me about community rental housing and asked me to help them pay attention to the housing resources," said Fadi, a Syrian businessman.

Fadi's landlord is Zhi Youmei. Since moving to the community in October 2017, the Fadi family has formed a deep friendship with Zhi Youmei. Zhi Youmei is reluctant to raise her rent, and Fadi will also give her some special products during festivals.

"The community is very close to the market, making it convenient for doing business. We are unlikely to leave here and will continue to live there," said Fadi.

Iranian businessman Hami has lived in Yiwu for more than 20 years, and his "International Uncle" studio is located in the service center of Jimingshan community. Recently, he has also been frequently asked by multiple foreign businessmen whether there are any vacant houses in Jimingshan Community that can be rented.

"Recently, three foreign businessmen have approached me to inquire about a house. One is from Guangzhou to Yiwu; the other two are from Iran and have just arrived in China. They are all planning to do foreign trade and start a company in Yiwu. I have lived in the Jimingshan community for many years and know many landlords, which can provide convenience for some friends who want to rent a house." Hami said that some potential tenants also find community workers.

"There is a foreigner named Wu Qiang who often teaches residents Tai Chi at the community sports stadium during his free time. He asked me to help rent a house in the community, but currently the occupancy rate in the community is high, and the available housing is very limited." The person in charge of Jimingshan Community explained.

The rental boom in Jimingshan Community reflects the strong foreign trade momentum and confidence of local businesses. According to data, Yiwu, Zhejiang Province issued over 14000 residence permits in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 40%. Among them, there are over 8000 work and residence permits, accounting for 57% of the total number of residence permits. The proportion of work and residence permits issued for the first time accounts for 35%. In the first quarter of this year, the city established 299 new foreign-funded enterprises, a year-on-year increase of 15.89%. (End)
