Style.com’s senior fashion editor, Marina Larroude, is finishing packing for her trip home to Brazil next week. Here, she shares her holiday travel essentials. Unlike most places in the States at this time of year, it’s hot and desertlike in Brazil right now, so I always think about Christmas as more of a summer party. Needless to say, I will be throwing lots of pieces from the Resort collections into my new navy blue Rimowa suitcase for the two-week trip. When in Brazil, I usually spend three days in São Paulo visiting family and friends. This time around, my dear friend and swimwear designer Amalia Spinardi, from Jo de Mer, is hosting a dinner in my honor Monday night. On the party list: Pedro Lourenço, Carlos Miele, and Alexandre Birman, to name a few. I began the search for the perfect cocktail dress, and after browsing through Style.com’s runway pictures with a few co-workers, we decided that a Peter Pilotto Resort dress was the most appropriate option for the event—colorful, edgy, and chic. To complement the look, Eddie Borgo’s spike turquoise necklace and an Edie Parker lucite clutch. (Check back on Style File next week to find out more about the party). For spending the day running around São Paulo, which requires more of a big-city uniform, what better than Equipment silk shirts, skinny jeans, and Ralph Lauren slippers? Then it’s off to my quiet hometown of Araçatuba, where I’ll be spending Christmas and New Year’s. Time in my parent’s hometown is spent relaxing and enjoying long days by the pool, filled with caipirinhas, Jo de Mer bikinis, Lancaster sunscreen, and Current/Elliott cutoffs. That’s all I’m planning on wearing for the next ten days. Well, almost. On New Year’s Eve, the entire country wears white for the midnight countdown, and for that my Jenni Kayne white ruffle dress is the perfect option.
